Background and Rationale of 3rd CoFET-Retreat

To hasten resilience to the escalating current production constraints, emergence and re-emergence of invasive species and the ruin of climate change to the global coffee systems, CoFET-Retreat is here. The 3rd Retreat is critical and will concentrate on long-term collaboration between AFRICA and Hawai’i aspired for since the inaugural event at Hawai’i Agricultural Research Center, Oahu June 2022.

CoFET-Retreat – 3 is set to host;

  1. High-stake coffee science colloquium.
  2. Graduate Student Forum (GSF).
  3. Joint Hawai’i – AFRICA coffee industry – wide competitive cup profiling experience.

The scientific opinions and papers presented at this retreat will be published in the CoFET-Retreat Proceedings. At the heart of this year’s retreat, is the critical appraisal on the research progress of 4 key development priorities, including; coffee leaf rust (CLR), black coffee twig borer (BCTB), coffee berry borer (CBB) and climate change resilience.

Achieving the vision for CoFET-Retreat (Oahu iSLAND) Hawai’i – USA https://www.africacoffeebureau.us/cofet-retreat-oahu-island-hawaii-usa/; CoFET-Retreat is chiefly rooting for joint research cooperation between AFRICA and Hawai’i under the banner “CoFET-Retreat a Launch Tower for Coffee Research Collaboration Between Hawai’i and AFRICA”.

The strongest reason for the science exchange idea is because coffee constraints are the same irrespective of geographical location, isolation or distinction, the case for Hawai’i – USA and AFRICA. The other rationale for CoFET-Retreat is the need for synergies and partnerships for joint solutions. Several achievements gained at the inaugural retreat in Oahu and a lot more for us to do thus, the basis for CoFET-Retreat 3.

The 3rd CoFET-Retreat will dwell on the drawbacks and strengthen the gains of earlier retreats. The 4-day long event running from November 12th – 15th 2025, will be quite action packed.
